CHILD PROTECTION

Safeguarding Children Initiative’s Child Protection team is dedicated to ensuring that children, along with their caregivers, have access to essential mental health and psychosocial support services. Recognizing the vulnerability of many children associated with armed forces and groups, the initiative has undertaken efforts to facilitate the reintegration of these children into safe and accepting communities.

Under the ambit of the Right to Care programme, Safeguarding Children Initiative, in collaboration with its partners, is actively engaged in supporting communities across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States. The primary objective is to construct protective and inclusive environments for a substantial population of 19,200 children and their caregivers who face the highest protection risks.

This comprehensive project goes beyond merely providing support; it encompasses a holistic approach. Through detailed case management and psychosocial assistance, the initiative aims to address the unique challenges faced by conflict-affected children and their caregivers. Moreover, a pivotal aspect of this endeavour involves empowering community protection committees with the requisite skills to identify and respond effectively to protection issues within their respective communities.

In essence, Safeguarding Children Initiative is not only addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable children and their caregivers but is also actively involved in building the capacity of communities to safeguard and nurture the well-being of their youngest members. This initiative seeks not only to mitigate the impact of conflict on children but also to foster resilience and promote sustainable protective mechanisms within the communities it serves.
