Zion Japhet is a passionate leader and advocate for child protection, currently serving as the Executive Director of the Safeguarding Children Initiative (SCII). With a deep commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children, Zion has been instrumental in leading SCII's mission to provide comprehensive aid and protection across various sectors. Under Zion's leadership, SCII has made significant strides in areas such as gender-based violence prevention, community sensitization, and support for vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities. Zion's dedication to empowering youth and creating sustainable change in communities reflects a vision of a safer, more equitable world for all children.
The date of 5 September was chosen in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace.
