Providing access to quality, safe and alternative education conflict-affected children
Safeguarding Children Initiative aims to impact 3000 Conflicted affected Children, with a focus on children (60% girls, 40% boys), including those with disabilities in schools, camps, and communities. The project targets 60 teachers (70% women, 30% men) and 50 School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) members for training on improved teaching approaches and conflict-sensitive education. Additionally, 500 Out of School Children (OOSCs) will be identified and enrolled in an Accelerated Education Programme (AEP). The learners will receive age-appropriate learning materials, teachers will be supported with teaching materials, and OOSCs will receive back-to-school enrollment kits.
Caregivers will attend positive parenting sessions, and adolescent girls will receive menstrual hygiene management life-skills sessions with reusable sanitary pads provided. The project integrates COVID-19 prevention measures and collaborates with local authorities for effective Education in Emergencies (EiE) service delivery. Renovation of four dilapidated Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS), provision of classroom desks, and environmental sensitivity are included. The project leverages partnerships for enrollment drives, involves other sectors, and raises awareness of climate change. Safeguarding Children Initiative will support the continuity of education programs in Northeast Nigeria, building on the gains of the concluding project.
