We are deeply committed to ensuring the health and nutrition of every child in Nigeria through the endeavours of the safeguarding children initiative. Our specific focus is on promoting the well-being of orphans, vulnerable children, and those affected by conflict.

Our health and nutrition programs are designed to operate comprehensively, reaching from community-level interventions to national advocacy efforts. We work tirelessly to uphold children’s right to health and nutrition, addressing critical areas such as preventing malnutrition, ensuring access to essential healthcare, and meeting the specific health needs of orphans and vulnerable children.

During times of heightened vulnerability, our humanitarian response includes providing targeted health and nutrition services to mitigate the impact of crises on children. Through these initiatives, we aim to empower every child with the foundation for a healthy and thriving life.

Acute Malnutrition 

In 2022, more than 45 million children under the age of five were affected by acute malnutrition (Source: WHO 2023). Safeguarding Children Initiative is mobilizing to invest in innovative solutions and treat many more children suffering from this disease. 

Because solutions exist to improve the prevention, early detection, and treatment of wasting in children. Different organizations have developed and tested simplified approaches to the treatment of acute malnutrition and clinical and operational trials have already demonstrated that these approaches are more efficient and would allow many more children to be treated. 

At the heart of these measures, safeguarding children initiative more specifically advocate the integration of simplified approaches into the health systems of communities affected by this scourge. 

Safeguarding Children Initiative has launched its simplified approach: Optimize the management of Acute Malnutrition), a real innovation which aims to detect and treat children suffering from acute malnutrition early in a more efficient manner, and which puts communities at heart of the solution.
